The Gay Games are the largest gathering in the world of gay and lesbian athletes, cultural performers, spectators and friends and, in 2014, will be the world’s largest multi-sport event. With over 30 years of success, the Games are held every four years in a world-class host city. In 2014, the Games will be held in Cleveland/Akron, Ohio. The motto of the Games is “Participation, Inclusion and Personal Best.” In that spirit the Games are open to everyone 18 and older, gay and straight, of all ability levels and stresses participation over winning. The Games were founded in 1982 by Dr. Tom Waddell, a 1968 Olympic decathlete, as a “vehicle of change.”
